In 2016, Disney announced an ambitious plan to build a highly anticipated Star Wars theme park, Galaxy’s Edge, in two locations, Los Angeles and Florida, opening its doors to fans in 2019. At Faber by Kalisch, we do not know much about Quadanium Steel or Beskar, but we are experts in pre-engineered steel structures, and today, May the 4th, let us take a look at how steel structures form the foundation of these parks.
The purpose of these two Star Wars parks was to give fans a realistic experience and let them feel the dimmensions and atmosphere present in the movies, as Scott Trowbridge from Walt Disney Imagineering said: “[O]ur intent is to make it feel as if you just walked into one of the movies… Bringing Star Wars to life in the physical world gives us the opportunity to play with a whole bunch of things we’ve never done before. In 2017, Disney published the progress made in a year, showing us see the skeleton of the two AT-AT’s, made with heavy and huge steel structures.
Seeing the steel structures in these pictures wasn’t a surprise, because of the well-known capabilities of them, being more durable, sustainable, faster to erect, and maintainable than any other structural material. Custom steel structure fabrication is our main service at Faber by Kalisch, with more than 40 years of experience, we have delivered reliant structures to more than 140 projects.
As you can see in the picture with the unfinished AT-AT’s, you can recognize the shape of them, even though they are not finished, thanks to the great customized shapes steel structures can achieve. This characteristic gives visitor the chance to be safe while visiting the Millennium Falcon at the park.
In summary, pre-engineered structures are a cost-effective way to produce an unlimited variety of advanced, modern structures, giving us the chance to be closer to the most fantastic and adventurous experiences in the Galaxy.
